With school about to be done for the summer I have been getting a lot of questions regarding hiring minors as summer help. The short answer would be: Worker's compensation in Wisconsin will apply to underage workers.  But everybody knows there is no such thing as a short answer when it comes to insurance.

Wisconsin has penalties that will not be covered by your policy for:

·         Double compensation for minors injured while working without a work permit.

·         Triple compensation for minors employed in prohibited work.

More information can be found at the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development’s web site. They have a Guide to Wisconsin’s Child Labor Laws publication as well as a Wisconsin Employment of Minors Guide.

All situations are different. Please give us a call if you have specific issues for which we can be of assistance.
